What We Do

Hospice Care

Our goal is to ensure that individuals facing end of life can live out their days in a full and meaningful way.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

At Compass, our goal is to ensure that individuals facing end of life can live out their days in a full and meaningful way. We aim to provide peace and comfort as you and your loved ones navigate your diagnosis. With our interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual counselors, volunteers, and grief support staff, we’re able to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for those in the advanced stages of an illness, and support for the loved ones who care for them. From the time of diagnosis, Compass can help guide you through difficult decisions and assist you as you adjust to changes and anticipate the future. We help you live on your terms with a wide range of care options and support to meet your specific needs along the way.

What can I expect with hospice care?

Our hospice care team is made up of a physician, a nurse, a CNA, a social worker, a Chaplain, volunteers, and our grief support staff. With regular visits and 24/7 access to assistance, our team guides patients and caregivers through pain and symptom management. We’re able to provide practical support, guidance, medications, and medical equipment related to the diagnosis.

Emotional and spiritual support is available for all patients and their loved ones, beginning at admission and continuing through the grief process.

Additionally, our volunteers are able to provide companionship to patients and relief to the caregiver.

Where is hospice care provided?

Hospice care allows the patient to remain where they feel most comfortable—at home. Home can include a private residence, assisted living or long-term care facilities, or nursing homes. If remaining at home is no longer possible, Compass has a residential hospice care center. The ten-bed Hospice Center in Centreville provide a comfortable and medically-supportive alternative.

How do I pay for hospice care?

Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances cover the cost of hospice care.

Residence at our hospice center is billed separately, and determined on a sliding scale based on the patient’s financial status. No one is turned away based on inability to pay.

All of our emotional and spiritual support is free of charge and open to our patients, their loved ones, and our community.

Is hospice the right care option for you or a loved one?

When curative treatments are no longer effective, Compass can help individuals who:

  • have a progressing, serious illness.
  • have decided that comfort and symptom management will be the focus of care.
  • have been told that life expectancy is limited and measured in months rather than years.

If you think Compass can help you or a loved one, or you still are unsure, call us at 443-262-4100. We can arrange for a free, informational visit.
